The documentary Yona. Hungry Delirium tells the story of the work and personal transformation of Ukrainian artist of Bulgarian origin Yona Tukuser. Born in the village of Hlavani in the Odessa region, she grew up hearing painful stories about the Holodomor of 1946-1947, which tragically affected the local Bulgarian community. These stories became a creative impulse, driving Yona to collect more than 100 eyewitness accounts, research the local archives, and depict the historical truth about the man-made famine in her paintings. Tukuser’s mission is to preserve the memory of her community’s tragedy and draw parallels with current events – reminding us that the struggle for freedom and dignity continues.
